What is a website?

In simple terms, a website is a collection of documents or files that one can access through the internet. Now to be able to look at a website people use a program called a browser. The most popular browsers are Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari. A browser’s job is to make the code into something that the user can look at and use.

Where the websites come from? How does the browser get the information for them?

Well, the documents or files that makeup websites are stored or hosted on computers called servers. The server’s job is to host the information files and make them available to be sent whenever they are requested. When you tell your browser to look at the web page it sends a request to the server where the web page is hosted through the internet. The server responds by sending information for that page back to your browser which displays it so you can see it. To coordinate all of these any device that connects to the internet is given a unique address this is called an IP address.

IP addresses usually look something like 216.172.167.166. Now for most people remembering an IP address isn’t very easy. So to help with these names that are easier to remember are used to substitute for the IP addresses. These names are called Domain names. That way instead of trying to remember something like the IP address all one has to remember is a name.

STEPS TO BUILD A WEBSITE IN 2021:

When you first plan to execute your imaginative website for real, it may seem difficult and a confusing job that requires great web knowledge. But it’s nothing like that; in fact, creating a website is quite a simple task. It just takes 8 easy steps to create a website. Now since we know the types of websites available, let us see the steps involved to build a website.

Step 1: Choose a domain name/URL: –

Before creating a website the first step is selecting a domain name. The domain name gives your website identity and has to be unique yet easy for the browsers to remember. The selection of domain names is the first step because the hosting company needs a name for your website.

The domain names should be chosen carefully because that determines the web page. People need to know the domain name to access that web page. Sometimes the domain name is related to the main topic of that website. This enables the users to get in touch with that web page easily when they search for a topic that is related to that website.

Others choose a domain name to associate with their brand and type of business they are into. If for example, you are making a brand, your domain name is most likely to be the name of your brand. So domain name should e chose wisely.

Step 2: Register your domain name /URL: –

Once your domain name is chosen, the next step is registering your domain with the registrar. Many companies register your domain.

For the sake of saving there are some hosting companies like the BlueHost that provide free domain registration with your hosting service. They save a little. But again there are options where you can register your domain from a company and host from another company.

Step 3: Chose a hosting service: –

After registering your domain name with a registered service the next is hosting your website, so you have a find a service that will host your web page.

While choosing your hosting service few things need to be kept in mind.

  • Make sure the hosting service offers good reliability and speed.
  • Find out how you can contact them if you need help and make sure they offer excellent customer service.
  • Check to see if the hosting service allows you to access your website through a control panel so you can manage the back-end of your web page.
  • Make sure the hosting service gives you lots of storage space.

Few good hosting providers are Bluehost, Godaddy, Hostgator, etc.

Step 4: Connect your domain name to your web host:

If you chose a web hosting service that provides a domain name as well then this step can be skipped as the hosting service will automatically link the two.

But if you chose a different registration service for your domain n name then you have connected that domain name with your web hosting service. All you have to do is ask your web host for your server name or DNS and plug your DNS into your domain name registrar account.

Step 5: Install WordPress: –

Everybody imagines their web page in a particular way. After connecting your domain name with your web host you have to install a software called WordPress. This software enables the creator to customize his web page the way he wants to. Whether it a blog, an online business, or an eCommerce site WordPress works best for back-end works.

The WordPress software that will power your web page is extremely flexible, highly customizable, simple to navigate, and easy to learn. This software powers some of the most well-known and respected websites on the internet.

Step 6: Chose the perfect theme for your website: –

The theme changes the outlook of the website itself. There are a huge number of free and premium (paid) themes available on WordPress one can choose from.

While many of the free themes available offer you a degree of design and functionality the premium themes are often more professional looking and give you much more flexibility in customizing your website.

Step 7: Configure your website: –

Now that your web page is up and running and you’ve chosen the perfect theme you’ll want to configure your website so that you provide the best experience for your browsers.

Form your navigation and make it easy for your browsers to know what your website is all about and make their way easy to find what they were searching for. Choose two or three primary colors to represent your site but don’t use as too many colors can turn off your browsers from what is important. Highlight important areas so that the browsers can find them easily.

Step 8: Add content: –

If you made it till here then you are set to bring your web page into action. Now all you have to do is fill your website with contents that the web page is about.

If you have made it till here. Congratulation! You have a web page of your own.
